What makes your cleric worthy of speaking for 'god' or telling you what 'god' wants as opposed to 'god'?

If you believe 'god' is omnipotent, omnipresent shouldn't you speak directly to the creator as opposed to man who is full of sin, and is not perfect and has not even created himself?
